POLICIES




THE DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE

The Arizona Nursery Association supports the Arizona Department of Agriculture in its efforts to protect and promote the economic well-being of the horticultural industry in Arizona. We do believe the Department’s role should be to promote and regulate the agricultural industry, public health, and protect agriculture from economically damaging pests and diseases. (2004)


EDUCATION

The Arizona Nursery Association supports the inclusion of horticulture in our universities, extension services, community colleges and schools in Arizona. We believe horticultural careers should be emphasized in each of these institutions as a worthwhile, progressive and innovative career choice. We are willing to assist in this endeavor. (2004)

GREEN INDUSTRY ORGANIZATIONS

The Arizona Nursery Association will actively work with other green  industry organizations in areas of mutual interest and benefit. (2004)

STATEWIDE TREE LISTS

The Arizona Nursery Association does not endorse restrictive plant lists, but welcomes the opportunity to lend proficiency and expertise in the development of these lists. There are appropriate uses for all types of plants. ANA encourages the appropriate use of all plant material through education of the general public and other organizations and well as industries. ENVIRONMENT

Nursery professionals are committed to promoting environmentally sound practices. The Arizona Nursery Association believes in enhancing our air quality, water quality and the beautification of our land through the use of proper landscape materials and practices.      (2004)

NATIVE PLANTS

The Arizona Nursery Association believes in the protection of native plants, especially rare and endangered species, as they exist in the natural habitat of Arizona. We encourage unrestricted commercial propagation of non-endangered species. (2004)

PUBLIC RELATIONS

The Arizona Nursery Association believes all citizens  should be aware of the benefits of  plants and will encourage this by providing educational and promotional materials to consumers. In addition, the Arizona Nursery Association supports a proactive  public    relations campaign to promote our industry. (2004)

PROPERTY TAXES

Arizona nursery growers are part of the agricultural community and should be taxed as such. (2004)

PESTICIDES

The Arizona Nursery Association recognizes and supports the responsible and safe use of pesticides and encourages owners, operators and managers to utilize Integrated Pest Management best management practices. (2004)

WATER

The Arizona Nursery Association supports sound water management policies in both production and care of plants. (2004)
