Job Description

Facilities Management, Grounds Services, Tempe campus, seeks a Nights Groundskeeper to maintain grounds and participate in all types of grounds maintenance activities.

Essential Duties

  • Maintain grounds and roads e.g. plant, remove debris, water; spray for weeds and insects; operate and maintain landscaping tools and equipment. 
  • Perform maintenance, and install/remove outdoor signage.
  • Plant shrubs, trees, and flowers.  Prune trees and shrubs.
  • Remove debris from stairs and walk, rake leaves and mow lawns.
  • Pick up litter and empty outdoor trash/recycling cans.
  • Removal of solid waste from campus and keeping recycled materials separated from the landfill waste.
  • Water trees, shrubs and lawns and perform irrigation activities.
  • Spray for weeds and insects using unrestricted chemicals as required.
  • Operate high pressure power washer.
  • Operate large power lawn mowers, edgers, hand tools and large vehicles associated with ground maintenance and landscaping activities.
  • Operate pick-up trucks, stake-bed truck, flat-rack trucks and dump trucks for hauling purposes and for trash and debris removal.
  • Perform minor maintenance and repair on equipment and tools as required.
  • Assist in the maintenance of roads, parking lots and other surfaces including asphalt repairs.
  • Install and remove outdoor signs, parking and traffic control barriers, and overhead banners as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Any experience which provides knowledge, skills and ability to perform the work. Employee may be required to possess a valid US Driver’s license of the appropriate class and required endorsements throughout employment.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience in utilizing and operating grounds equipment and/or tools (e.g. leaf sweepers, line trimmers, hedge trimmers, blowers, hand truck, power lift gate, hammer drill, chain saw, basic hand tools, etc.)
  • Experience in repairing/maintaining irrigation systems
  • Experience in planting shrubs, trees, flowers, pruning trees/shrubs
  • Experience in operating riding, push lawn mowers, and other turf related equipment
  • Experience in power washer operation
  • Experience in trash compactor operation
  • Experience in operating stake bed truck
  • Experience in minor equipment maintenance (e.g. oil changes, blade sharpening, filter changes, spark plug changes, use of grease gun, etc.)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of customer service skills
  • Evidence of effective verbal and written communication skills

Working Environment

Activities regularly require long periods of exposure to external elements indigenous to a desert environment, weather, potential exposure to venomous insects, insecticides, herbicides and fertilizers. Regularly required to operate a variety of landscaping equipment, tools and machines requiring extended periods of walking over uneven and occasionally rocky surfaces, stooping, bending, reaching, lifting and pushing objects of varying weights up to 50 pounds. Clearly communicate to perform essential functions.. Regular use of mowers, trimmers, edgers, shears, spreaders, hoses, hand and power tools/machines; may regularly operate a motor vehicle as assigned. This position receives regular review of daily work tasks to ensure adherence with established standards for quality, aesthetics, and quantity.

Job Description

Facilities Management, Grounds Services, seeks a Groundskeeper Specialist - Irrigation to install, repair and troubleshoot manual and timer controlled irrigation systems.   

Essential Duties

Install new drip/irrigation and sprinkler systems. Set and maintain times on various types of irrigation controllers (Calsense, Rainbird, Raindial, T-Boss, etc.).  Troubleshoot irrigation controllers, solenoid valves and heads of all types.  Replace/repair/adjust faulty sprinkler heads or drip systems, irrigation controllers or valves.  Perform scheduled shut offs for campus event requests.  Program, monitor and adjust computer controlled irrigation systems.  Check for and repair leaks to ensure minimal water loss.  Recognize water deficiencies in turf areas and make necessary corrections. Operate small trenching machine and track down and repair water leaks and faulty wiring.  Perform strenuous work in outdoor elements to include extreme heat and desert environment.  Ability to communicate verbally, read, write, see and hear to perform the essential functions of the job.
 

Minimum Qualifications

 Two (2) years of grounds maintenance experience, OR, Associate Degree in Horticulture or related field e.g. Golf Course Management, Sports Turf Management, Landscape Construction; OR, Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved; AND possess and maintain One (1) Grounds certification or equivalent e.g. Arizona Pest Application License, Certified Arborist from International Society of Arboriculture, Certified Grounds Technician from PGMS, Passed Desert Landscaper School from the Phoenix Desert Botanical Garden. Employee may be required to possess a valid US Driver’s license of the appropriate class and required endorsements throughout employment.

Desired Qualifications

Evidence of:

  • An Irrigation Technician Certification
  • An Arizona Landscape Contractors Association ACLP Certification
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills


Experience in:

  • Underground landscape irrigation/sprinkler system repair and installation (2 years).
  • Operating irrigation related equipment and tools.
  • Central controller irrigation systems (e.g. Calsense).


Demonstrated knowledge of:

Essential Duties:

  • Specialize in tree care, the planting and transplanting of trees and plants including site preparation, installation, backfilling, staking, pruning, watering, and mulching.
  • Raise and thin tree canopies; trim to relieve encroachment on structures, walkways or roads; remove fallen, dead or hazardous trees. Identify potentially hazardous trees and other tree-related problems; develop and apply appropriate tree hazard management strategies.
  • Ensure safety of workers and other persons at worksites. Set up traffic control measures to provide a safe worksite and prevent entry of non-essential personnel.
  • Maintain records of work performed on all campus trees and maintain tree inventory records.
  • Train, work alongside, and coordinate Groundskeepers in the maintenance of grounds, trees and shrubs as required.
  • Operate brush truck, chipper, aerial lifts, chain saws, stump grinders hand tools and vehicles associated with grounds maintenance and landscaping activities.
  • Perform minor maintenance and repair on equipment and tools as required.
  • Ability to communicate verbally, read, write, see and hear to perform the essential functions of the job.

DAYS AND SCHEDULE: Monday - Friday; 5:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • local tree species and standards.

Job Description

Facilities Management, Grounds Services, seeks a Groundskeeper Specialist - Irrigation to install, repair and troubleshoot manual and timer controlled irrigation systems.

Essential Duties

Install new drip/irrigation and sprinkler systems. Set and maintain times on various types of irrigation controllers (Calsense, Rainbird, Raindial, T-Boss, etc.).  Troubleshoot irrigation controllers, solenoid valves and heads of all types.  Replace/repair/adjust faulty sprinkler heads or drip systems, irrigation controllers or valves.  Perform scheduled shut offs for campus event requests.  Program, monitor and adjust computer controlled irrigation systems.  Check for and repair leaks to ensure minimal water loss.  Recognize water deficiencies in turf areas and make necessary corrections. Operate small trenching machine and track down and repair water leaks and faulty wiring.  Perform strenuous work in outdoor elements to include extreme heat and desert environment.  Ability to communicate verbally, read, write, see and hear to perform the essential functions of the job.

Minimum Qualifications

 Two (2) years of grounds maintenance experience, OR, Associate Degree in Horticulture or related field e.g. Golf Course Management, Sports Turf Management, Landscape Construction; OR, Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved; AND possess and maintain One (1) Grounds certification or equivalent e.g. Arizona Pest Application License, Certified Arborist from International Society of Arboriculture, Certified Grounds Technician from PGMS, Passed Desert Landscaper School from the Phoenix Desert Botanical Garden.     The Irrigation and Lawn Technician in this position works with the Manager of Horticulture and Senior Irrigation Technician in the installation and maintenance of irrigation systems. Lawn installation and maintenance are also a primary function of this position.

    • 1.     Provide quality guest service to both internal and external guests by maintaining a WILD (friendly, helpful, positive and professional) working attitude and appearance.

    Job Description

    The Nursery Operations Manager/Head Propagator is responsible for the overall growing operations at Arid Solutions Nursery, located in Phoenix Arizona. The Operations Manager will be overseeing the nursery operations and ensuring plant production is optimized to assure healthy and hardy plants are ready and available for our retail and wholesale operations as necessary. The NOM should possess a passion and understanding of plants, a “green thumb,” and team leadership skills. This position works under the direction of the General Manager GM to assure all plant production is done in accordance with ASN standards and guidelines.

    Key Duties and Responsibilities

    • Overseeing all plant propagation and production operations.
    • Managing a diverse group of employees.
    • Maintaining accurate inventory levels by ensuring production management and growing/propagation responsibilities are completed accurately and in a timely fashion, and by following proper processes to ensure production is maximized and cost efficient.
    • Leading and enforcing all safety guidelines and directives.
    • Forecasting, budgeting and providing input in to long term grow plan.
    • Overseeing all chemical applications made to crops.
    • Providing proper identification and diagnosis of plant disease.
    • Reviewing the results of and ordering outside analysis of soil and plant tissues.
    • Conducting monthly reviews of grow times, plants per acre, shrink buffers, etc., for production.
    • Maintaining and improving upon systems integration of growing protocols.
    • Making recommendations as to variety selections, production methods, etc.
    • Setting production plans, keeping production on budget and in best-practices, ordering seeds, plants, fertilizer, chemicals, and supplies as needed.
    • Producing production reports, and analysis to help identify problems and improvement opportunities.
    • Developing and implementing seeding, watering, fertilizing, spraying, and bumping.
    • Analyzing overall production and make recommendations as to overall production.
    • Generating production reports, and exception reports.
    • Overseeing the hiring, staffing, managing, and directing production staff at the grow yard.
    • Working with Sr. Management to assure production plan matches market demand and goals.
    • Serving as a subject matter expert (SME) for, and working with external suppliers, government agencies, store personnel, and other company officials as needed.
    • Performing other duties and tasks as assigned.

    Qualifications: Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

    • Five + years’ experience in nursery management or related environment required.
    • Five + years of plant prorogation or comparable growing experience required.
    • Basic computer skills are necessary and experience with Slice software preferred.
    • Hold a valid Arizona Pesticide applicator license preferred.
    • Detailed orientation with a passion for working with plants, people, and numbers.
    • Reliable, responsible, and self-motivated, with ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
    • Aptitude in decision-making and problem solving.
    • Ability to work well with others.
    • Experience with Excel and other MS Office applications including Word.
    • Strong time management, attention to detail, organizational skills and follow through.
    • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.

    Education

    A four year degree in Ag Management, Horticulture, or related field of study and/or training (or equivalent knowledge gained through formal education, specialized training, or additional job experience)

    Job Description:

    The purpose of is continuing-eligible Horticulture Extension Assistant/Associate Agent position is to conduct applied research, deliver educational opportunities, and provide technical support to the consumer and commercial horticulture sectors, as well as urban agriculture and food systems in Maricopa County. The agent collaborates with retail and wholesale nursery industry leaders to identify research and education needs to benefit the industry and promote environmentally responsible practices in the desert southwest. Research and program outcomes are presented at conferences and state, regional, and national meetings of professional organizations. The agent communicates with clientele and peers through a variety of means, including print publications, peer reviewed journal articles, email listservs, and social media. Educational opportunities are offered through formal and non-formal classes, clinics, and workshops in plant biology, pest management, soil science, water, and other relevant topics, as needed for entities such as Master Gardeners, professional landscapers, and urban food producers. On-site support is provided through visits to identify problems and offer practical solutions. Oversight and guidance is provided to school and community garden programs, the Maricopa County Master Gardener Program (a nationwide volunteer program that trains individuals who advise and educate the public on gardening and horticulture) and SmartScape (a training program for landscape professionals). The agent works with diverse clientele as well as other University of Arizona agents, specialists, researchers, programmatic staff, volunteers, and governmental agencies and non-governmental organization representatives.

    Our North Phoenix garden center is needing motivated individual to Assist our Outside Sales Team. We are looking for team players who love to be outdoors and enjoy the surrounds of plants and people. This position will be in continuous motion and ever changing. You are in charge of your daily duties and the order in which you do them. Any errands needing to be run, the company provides the vehicle to do them.


    Different jobs areas will be: Writing Proposals, Typing invoices, Collecting Monies (payments/deposits etc.), Making Phone calls, Picking up product, Running product to customers & job sites, Pricing product, tagging sold products, ordering product for jobs to be done, being in constant contact with the Outside Salesman, Handling the phone calls with customers, Emailing (pictures, invoices, proposals), Loading and unloading the jobs.
