Facilities Development and Management, Grounds Services, seeks a Groundskeeper Specialist (Irrigation) to install, repair and troubleshoot manual and timer controlled irrigation systems.

Essential Duties:
Install new drip/irrigation and sprinkler systems; set and maintain times on computer and electronic valve clocks. Troubleshoot computerized electronic systems, irrigation controllers, solenoid valves and heads of all types. Replace/repair/adjust faulty sprinkler heads or drip systems, irrigation controllers or valves. Perform scheduled shut offs for campus event requests. Program, monitor and adjust computer controlled irrigation systems. Check for and repair leaks to ensure minimal water loss. Recognize water deficiencies in turf areas and make necessary corrections. Minimum Qualifications:
Two (2) years of grounds maintenance experience or Associate Degree in Horticulture or related field, e.g. Golf Course Management, Sports Turf Management, Landscape Construction or any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved. Job Description:

Facilities Development and Management, Tempe campus, seeks a Groundskeeper Specialist (Spray Technician) to perform grounds maintenance specializing in pest control and fertilizer applications for campus grounds.

Essential Duties:

  • Maintain grounds and roads, e.g. plant, remove debris, water, spray for or otherwise treat weed, insects, and other pests.
  • Assess disease and pest problems in lawn and landscape areas and perform pest and disease control operations.
  • Maintain lawns, planting areas, sprinkler systems and area watering lines.
  • Work with crew trimming, pruning and chipping a variety of trees and shrubs.
  • Train and work alongside groundskeepers in the maintenance of grounds, trees and shrubs as required.
  • Operate large power and field mowers, hand tools and large vehicles associated with ground maintenance and landscaping activities.
  • Perform minor maintenance and repair on equipment and tools as required.
  • Coordinate irrigation and watering activities within area of specialty.
  • Perform maintenance, and install/remove outdoor signage.

Minimum Qualifications:

Two (2) years of grounds maintenance experience or Associate Degree in Horticulture or related field e.g. Golf Course Management, Sports Turf Management, Landscape Construction or any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved. Candidates must also possess and maintain one (1) Grounds certification or equivalent e.g. Arizona Pest Application License, Certified Arborist from International Society of Arboriculture, Certified Grounds Technician from PGMS, passed Desert Landscaper School from the Phoenix Desert Botanical Garden. Some positions in this classification may be required to obtain a current Type D Arizona driver’s license upon employment.

Desired Qualifications:
Experience in:

  • Fertilizer and pesticide applications management
  • Operating and performing maintenance on specialized equipment including brush chipper, stump grinder, and chainsaws in a safe and efficient manner
  • Training and working alongside others in proper pruning practices and work site safety
  • Providing customer service

Demonstrated knowledge of:

  • Fertilizer and/or pesticide applications
  • Tree care concepts (e.g., diagnostics, pruning, removal, stump grinding, cabling, fertilizing, and planting)
  • Local tree species and standards

Evidence of effective verbal and written communication skills

Working Environment:

Activities regularly require long periods of exposure to external elements indigenous to a desert environment, weather, and potential exposure to venomous pests, pesticides, and fertilizers. Regularly required to operate a variety of landscaping equipment, tools and machines requiring extended periods of walking over uneven and occasionally rocky surfaces, stooping, bending, reaching, lifting and pushing objects of varying weights up to 50 pounds. Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions.

Monday – Friday; 5:00AM – 1:30PM

Indoor Manager

Position Title: Indoor Manager

Dept./Division: Flagstaff Retail
Reports to: Retail Manager, Retail Assistant Manager
Supervises: Cashiering staff/Indoor Sales Staff
Employee Class: Class 2 Supervisory/Administrative/Technical

Objectives:

Provide excellent customer service, making sure all customers are greeted and helped when entering and checking out of the store.  Assure accurate processing of all sales transactions.  Hire, train, and motivate cashiering staff to provide a comfortable, educational, and relaxing shopping experience. Manage inventory of all indoor product.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Management:

  • Supervise Cashiering staff in the performance of their duties.
  • Assist in hiring new staff, plan and organize workload and staff assignments; assure adequate staff is always ready to assist customers.
  • Train, motivate, and evaluate assigned staff; review progress and direct changes as needed.
  • Provide customer service training to all employees.
  • Perform store opening and closing duties as needed.
  • Assist customers with warranty and other management issues.
  • Assure all customers are greeted with a smile and waited on while in the indoor nursery areas.

Daily Operations:

  • Assure proper cash handling and sales procedures are followed by cashiering staff according to company policies.
  • Take corrective action with employees when questions or problems arise.
  • Assist with answering telephone calls and customer inquiries.
  • Assure the daily bank deposit is made timely.
  • Maintain register drawer and bank funds in company safe.
  • Place change orders as needed.
  • Complete daily register proofs, master control summary, and transaction reports.
  • Assure that all non-standard type transactions such as voids, returns, and A/R charges are authorized and properly documented.
  • Assure that over/shorts are promptly verified and corrective action is taken when necessary.
  • Verify resale tax exempt customers.
  • Assist in receiving, pricing, and displaying merchandise as needed.

Other Duties:

  • Understand ordering process of Hard goods, help to maintain proper inventory levels at all times
  • Purchase and care for Tropical plants
  • Assist in receiving, pricing and merchandising of store product as needed
  • Ensure that all areas of the store are maintained, cleaned and kept adequately stocked throughout the changing seasons
  • Manage the display change outs throughout the indoor store to maximize sales potential
  • Recognize slow or non-moving product, react quickly so as to move this material out of the store
  • Answer telephone as needed

Wholesale Nursery Foreman

Cox Cactus Farm is a wholesale grower in North Phoenix providing a large selection of quality plant material and exceptional customer service to landscape contractors and nurseries throughout Arizona. We are a fast growing company seeking a Nursery Foreman to help manage day-to-day yard operations.

As the working Wholesale Nursery Foreman, you will be working with and managing the yard labor while reporting directly to the owner of the company. This is a full-time position working outdoors all day in all weather conditions.

Job Responsibilities

  • Manage 6-9 employees effectively and efficiently
  • Manage production and propagation
  • Manage and treat pests
  • Irrigation repair and maintenance
  • Manage shrub and tree pruning
  • Greenhouse and nursery repair and maintenance
  • Manage maintenance of vehicles and equipment
  • Efficiently managing the loading of delivery trucks and pulling of will-call orders
  • Managing and ordering of yard materials
  • Maintaining a clean, safe, and weed-free yard
  • Working closely with the sales team on plant availability and quality
  • Responsible for acquiring materials as needed
  • Other tasks as needed and requested by the Owner

This position has the following minimum requirements:

  • Must be bilingual – Spanish and English (if you do not speak Spanish, please do not apply)
  • Must be able to work and manage others effectively and efficiently – this is an extremely important requirement
  • Must have a clean driver’s license (some driving will be required)
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment drug screen and background check
  • Must have nursery and/or landscape management experience
  • Must be able to identify most tree, plant, and cactus varieties
  • Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, squat, kneel and twist continually throughout the day
  • Must be able to work outdoors, regardless of weather conditions
  • Must be familiar with pesticides, fertilizers, and herbicides
  • Must have some basic electrical knowledge
  • Must be able to deal with stress associated with a fast-paced, constantly changing, working environment including handling multiple tasks at one time on a daily basis
  • Must be able to communicate well with others 

This position is 45-50 hours per week, Monday through Friday, and pays $50,000-$65,000 (salary + hourly) depending on experience. Efficiency is our number one priority with this position.
